It's being more than 25 years since PGP is around, but e2e encrypted emails are still an exception. Even the people that claims to use OpenPGP does that for certain emails choosed by hand and never as the default option.
email encryption tools has failed to provide easy to use interfaces. The community around OpenPGP has managed to scare people away from it. We've being expecting OpenPGP users to understand all the details of the encryption. The complexity of trust models like the Web of Trust hasn't helped either.
The startup world is here to save the day™. Many silicon valley startups claim the death of email and to have the solution to privacy in communications, setting up centralized protocols where they can gather all the metadata. The proliferation of silos seems to be the new trend.
Is email protocol so bad that it needs to be replaced? Should we accept the death of federation? Can e2e encryption happen for all/most emails? Let's have a conversation around federation and privacy of communications using email as example.

Devuan GNU+Linux is a fork of Debian without systemd. Its final stable release in 2017 marks an important milestone towards the sustainability and the continuation of Devuan as a universal base distribution which has strong commitment to community values and freedom.
Among the others, Devuan is developed by the Dyne.org hackers in Amsterdam and is available for a growing number or embedded and virtual machines architectures: it runs as a universal and reliable OS, easy to use and customise, with fresh and concise documentation and an SDK, while it is arguably even more reliable than Debian itself since its switch to systemd.
This talk will introduce the audience to the story of how Devuan is born, what it became and how it can be useful for many people willing to build their own distribution.

In this presentation I will present the cryptographic aspects of a new secure filesystem called SEF. The goals of this project is to create a filesystem that is secure, robust and easy to understand. The goal of this presentation is two fold. One is to present cryptographic primitives that can be used to design secure filesystems as opposed to the current practice of laying encryption just below or above the filesystem. The second is to solicit feedback on the security of my design.

We'll do experiments with prisms and colored lamps, exploring natural optical laws, and discuss how the same effects emerge in social interaction. Think of projection, contrast and the less known but wonderful phenomenon of Interval. Colors (and also feelings/attitudes) magically summon up eachother this way. In the social, it's about the feelings and attitudes behind words, sometimes in the taboo zone. It's about the way we imagine and frame each other. We constantly create images of each other and chain or liberate each other with these preconceptions. We've all had our experience of social interaction gone wrong - let's have fun talking it over.
I'll need an inside space for this workshop, preferrably halfdark.

What does it mean that space for action is under threat? Individual and collective activism is facing a global pushback from states, corporations and the Far Right.
Join this workshop with Niels Jongerius (Transnational Institute), Tessa Kersten (Transnational Institute) and Isabelle Geuskens (Women Peacemakers Program) and explore what is 'shrinking space' and how we can counter it.
What is meant by 'shrinking space'? You are invited to a critical reflection on whose space is shrinking, to explore the ways that space is shrinking, and to find out how important it is that progressive forces pro-actively counter the continuous threat to civil society's space for action.
Focus will be mostly on the shrinking space that is being experienced 'at home' in Europe.
Edit: Niels was in Hamburg last week and experienced first hand the problems activists faced. Were you there too? Come and share.

This workshop will focus on a review and preview of our efforts to support political and/or radical events with IT services. Background is the work which has been put into the IT network of the Anticapitalistic Protest Camp against the G20 summit, which took place this year in Hamburg. After a review of the issues and the architecture we had in our preparation of the G20 protests, I would like to start a discussion about how we can improve our cooperation and trust network throughout our community. Another aspect could also be an open discussion about what future issues and possibilities we can identify for upcoming camps and actions.

This is not a lecture but rather a discussion. With 5 minute introduction to subject to than further discuss with folks who are interested. Subject: Robotization will probably erode many jobs. So much so that the traditional model of working for wages will no longer hold. An often proposed alternative for the division of wealth is implementing a universal basic income. However, this places power in the hands of corporations and states to decide how much people should receive and under what conditions. An alternative is Universal Basic Divident: a fixed percentage of proceeds generated by robots should flow to the collective.

Propaganda design workshop (we bring a tee-shirt press) and conversation around the concept of Third-TechnoScape. Tee-shirts, slogans, media invasion tactics, fun with propaganda from the city to social media.
Shedding lights also means casting shadows. In the shades of capitalist hegemony and ideology, we cast the 3TS to respond to the reductionist market-driven fallacy of "Third Space", between home and the workplace, where social capital can easily be captured and executed while the worker's guard is lowered. Not only the pervasiveness of technologies make such notions as home and work porous to the point of dissolution, but the rapidly deteriorating conditions of existence of the living often do not respond anymore to such criteria : the homeless meet the jobless in the darkness left over by the predatory shadow of mainstream propaganda.

Experience tough us balloons die rather quick after being exposed to the full sun for too long, although this gives a 'living art' thingy to it, I would prefer not hanging it in direct sun (or removing it in the morning/night to somewhere inside).
