Presentation of +Kaos - a book on the first 10 years of Autistici/Inventati's experience
--:--

Autistici/Inventati (A/I) is an italian hacktivist collective that's been around for almost two decades now, offering free services like email, web hosting mailing lists and more to a passionate community of activists and privacy-aware users.

Some years ago Autistici/Inventati published a book in Italian on the first 10 years of their experience. Now that book is finally available in English!

We want to present it to our comrades and friends as widely as possible, and we would be extremely pleased to start our tour in Amsterdam, the setting of some of our crazy hacking lore.

During this presentation, we will recall the early years of our history, where hacking and grassroots movements produced a mixture ranging from Indymedia to hacking collectives like Autistici/Inventati (and not only) in Italy or Riseup (and not only) worldwide. After this historical introduction, we would like to discuss together with other participants the new scenarios of these recent days, where most of the dystopias of the cyberpunk novels we greedily read at the time of A/I's foundation appear more and more like the daily gloom we're currently in.

Bias in Google Maps' 'Areas of Interest', and the Impact on Wealth Inequality
--:--

At the Hack Your City Berlin, a small team worked on analysis of the Google Maps feature called 'Areas Of Interest'. Google claims that density of shops and businesses are what primarily guides the algorithm for designating Areas of Interest. Our project showed that there is a bias when it comes to neighborhoods being designated as interesting: neighborhoods with more class privilege, and less ethnic minorities, are more likely to be labeled as interesting, even though they have lower density of businesses than nearby poor or minority neighborhoods. This presentation shows this bias with spatial data and maps. I also will talk about the risks of self strengthening algorithms when it comes to urban demographies, and the possible impacts of this software with regards too segregation and increasing wealth inequality.

putting decentralised trust into compromise-resilient community repositories
--:--

some people develop code. to enable others to use this code, a release needs to be done, and a way to distribute this release. this is the purpose of a community repository. certainly, trust should not be centralised in such a repository. instead a user should be able to verify that the original developer released this piece of code. additionally, the user should be able to verify that they got a fresh view of the repository with all the latest releases without any known security issues.

I'll briefly talk about the threat model I have in mind for such a repository, and some solutions I worked on in the past. not all of it is yet finalised and implemented :) we can discuss the tradeoffs and how other systems solve these issues.

this work is based on tuf http://theupdateframework.github.io/ , extended with TAP8 https://github.com/theupdateframework/taps/blob/tap8/tap8.md , which is inspired by conex https://hannes.nqsb.io/Posts/Conex (see https://ssl.engineering.nyu.edu/blog/2017-05-15-conex for the actual work being presented)

Technological Sovereignity, Volume #2
--:--

Book presentation: After the first collected volume to come out of Calafou, which was published in French, Spanish and Catalan, we soon bring you the second version in French, English, Spanish, Catalan and Italian! While before we focused on general introductions to different areas of technological sovereignity, now it is time to go deeper in detail into specific case studies of concrete technological sovereignity initiatives. Technological sovereignity is inspired by the already established concept-in-struggle, "food sovereignity", popularised by the Via Campesina movement.

The presentation will include authors and editors discussing the concept, its applications and implications, as well as an opportunity to download, buy, print or otherwise get the books, or even help to distribute/promote/translate them.

Finally, in the spirit of free software and free knowledge, we explain the tool chain, work flow and editorial decisions that made it all possible.

Property based testing in Erlang
--:--

A very short primer to testing various properties of your code using the Erlang programing language. We will walk over what property based testing is, why it's useful, how it relates to more common testing techniques. If we have time, we'll look at using property based testing in Erlang for testing your C code.

Is basic income the answer to robotization?
--:--

This is not a lecture but rather a discussion. With 5 minute introduction to subject to than further discuss with folks who are interested. Subject: Robotization will probably erode many jobs. So much so that the traditional model of working for wages will no longer hold. An often proposed alternative for the division of wealth is implementing a universal basic income. However, this places power in the hands of corporations and states to decide how much people should receive and under what conditions. An alternative is Universal Basic Divident: a fixed percentage of proceeds generated by robots should flow to the collective.

I Come From the Third-TechnoScape
--:--

Propaganda design workshop (we bring a tee-shirt press) and conversation around the concept of Third-TechnoScape. Tee-shirts, slogans, media invasion tactics, fun with propaganda from the city to social media.

Shedding lights also means casting shadows. In the shades of capitalist hegemony and ideology, we cast the 3TS to respond to the reductionist market-driven fallacy of "Third Space", between home and the workplace, where social capital can easily be captured and executed while the worker's guard is lowered. Not only the pervasiveness of technologies make such notions as home and work porous to the point of dissolution, but the rapidly deteriorating conditions of existence of the living often do not respond anymore to such criteria : the homeless meet the jobless in the darkness left over by the predatory shadow of mainstream propaganda.

"Critical Infrastructures are the clockwork that makes modern society tick." The Hague Security Delta, Securing Critical Infrastructures in the Netherlands

We would like to propose a discussion and workshop to look together at how certain infrastructures are changing with the inclusion of devices of various size, complexity and stupidity.

The capillary distribution of apparatuses of capture and control is both the result of a continuous optimization of flows, and what makes it possible.

For this encounter we would like to bring to the table some devices and some infrastructures as 'entry points' to study the way they influence our life and imagine forms of resistance.

Grid of WS2812 RGB LEDs taped to balloons to display visualizations and use for games. Our current grid is 17 × 11 pixels (187) and 6m × 3.9m in size. (code: https://github.com/wolbodo/thegrid)

Experience tough us balloons die rather quick after being exposed to the full sun for too long, although this gives a 'living art' thingy to it, I would prefer not hanging it in direct sun (or removing it in the morning/night to somewhere inside).
